More information about the concept of prominence
The prominence of the keyword and related words is a percentage that provides information about the position thereof in the text for a specific tag.
If your keyword is just one word:
- The keyword is at the front in the tag = 100%.
- The keyword is at the end in the tag = 0%.
- The keyword is right in the middle of the tag = 50%
If the keyword occurs on multiple occasions in the tag text, e.g. in the body, an average is created for all of the positions:
- The keyword occurs once at the front and once at the end = 50% [(100% + 0%) / 2].
- The keyword occurs once at the front and once in the middle = 75% [(100% + 50%) / 2].
- The keyword occurs once at the front and once in the middleand once at the end = 50% [100% + 50% + 0%) /3].
If your keyword is two words:
- Both words are at the front in the tag = 100% [(100% + 100%) /2].
- One word is at the front and the second word is at the end = 50% [(100% + 0%) / 2].
- One word is at the front and the second word is in the middle = 75% [(100% + 50%) / 2].
- The two words from the keyword are at the front, the single words is in the middle and the other word is at the end = 62% [(100% + 100% + 50% + 0%) /4].
The same principle applies to keywords that are made up of more than two words.
Related words:
- One related word from the list is at the front = 100%.
- One related word from the list is at the front and another is at the end = 50% [(100% + 0%) /2].
- One related word is at the front and another is in the middle = 75% [(100% + 50%) / 2].
- One related word is at the front and another is in the middle and another is at the end = 50% [(100% + 50% + 0%) / 3].
- One related word is in the middle and another is at the end = 25% [(50% + 0%) / 2].
For the purposes of the analysis, the keyword prominence for your landing page is compared with the average keyword prominence for web pages that are high up in Google's results list for a search with that keyword. This also goes for related word prominence.
The closer the prominence of the keyword and related words on your landing page is to the average prominence on the high scoring web pages, the better these will score with Google in reality.
If the percentage keyword prominence for your landing page is higher than average: try, as far as is possible, to move the keyword (or the words that make up the keyword) towards the front of the text in the tag.
If the percentage keyword prominence for your landing page is lower than average: try, as far as is possible, to move the keyword (or the words that make up the keyword) towards the end of the text in the tag.
If the percentage related word prominence for your landing page is higher than average: try, as far as is possible, to move the related words towards the front of the text in the tag.
If the percentage related word prominence for your landing page is lower than average: try, as far as is possible, to move the related words towards the end of the text in the tag.
Example:
Tag: title
The keyword prominence for this web page corresponds well with the ideal average. The difference is only 1%. The prominence could be slightly improved by moving keywords slightly to the back of the text but there is not much chance that this will impact significantly on the score.
The related words prominence is lower than the average for high scoring web pages for that keyword. This can be resolved by including the keyword more frequently in the first half of the text and less frequently in the second. This percentage shows that the keyword in the analysed landing page occurs mostly in the second part the text (close to 100%).
